President Mahama directs NPA to cut Diesel cost by GH¢2 Per Litre
The Chief Executive Officer of the NPA, Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, announced that the intervention takes effect from Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
According to Mr. Tameklo, the directive was issued by President John Dramani Mahama in response to rising fuel costs and the need to reduce the impact on households and businesses.
“President John Dramani Mahama has directed that the NPA takes steps to absorb GH¢2 on every litre of diesel to cushion the impact of recent fuel price increases,” he stated in a Facebook post.
He described the move as another demonstration of the President’s commitment to supporting ordinary Ghanaians amid increasing economic pressures.
Speaking in an interview on News Central on TV3 on Monday, August 3, Mr. Tameklo confirmed that the reduction would begin immediately on Tuesday.
In a separate statement, the Minister of State in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, explained that the intervention follows a Cabinet decision and builds on a similar measure introduced in April 2026.
He said the government has approved a temporary reduction of the regulatory margin on diesel by GH¢2 per litre for a period of one month.
According to Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, the measure is intended to ease pressure on consumers, prevent possible increases in transport fares, reduce inflationary effects and limit the impact of higher fuel costs on the prices of goods and services.
“The directive shall take effect from Tuesday, 4 August 2026, and shall remain in force for one month, unless otherwise reviewed by Government,” he stated.
The government said it will continue monitoring developments in the global energy market and introduce additional measures where necessary to protect consumers and support economic recovery.
