In a significant step toward promoting transparency and accountability, President John Dramani Mahama has officially declared his assets to the Auditor-General.
The declaration was made public on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the Jubilee House, in accordance with Ghana’s Public Office Holders (Declaration of Assets and Disqualification) Act. The submission details Mahama’s financial holdings, properties, and other assets.
In a brief statement, the President underscored the importance of transparency in restoring public trust.
“In the past, I would privately submit these forms to the Auditor-General in fulfillment of my statutory obligation. However, I have chosen to do so publicly this time to bring greater openness and transparency to the asset declaration process,” Mahama stated.
He further emphasized that while punishing corruption is necessary, preventing it should be the primary goal.
“I firmly believe that if properly designed and enforced, asset declaration can serve as a sustainable tool for combating corruption,” he added.
Mahama also urged all government appointees to follow his example and declare their assets, warning that failure to do so could result in dismissal from office.
