Popular Nigerian gospel musician dies
Nigerian gospel singer Esther Igbekele has expressed deep grief over the sudden death of gospel singer and choir master Kolawole Okanlawon, saying she is struggling to come to terms with the loss.
Okanlawon, who served as a choir master at CCC Winners Parish in Lagos State, was confirmed dead by Igbekele in an emotional Instagram post on Monday, October 5.
According to Igbekele, the news came as a devastating shock, particularly because the two had recently spent time together during her last visit to the United Kingdom.
Reflecting on their recent encounter, the gospel singer said Okanlawon’s sudden passing had left her struggling to understand how someone she had seen and interacted with recently could be gone.
“I still find it difficult to believe that I am writing this about your demise,” she wrote in her tribute.
Igbekele described life as fragile and unpredictable as she reminisced about the moments they shared and mourned the loss of her colleague.
She also expressed her belief that Okanlawon’s contribution to her music organisation would not be forgotten.
According to her, the Esther Igbekele Music Organisation would greatly miss his presence and the role he played in its activities.
She offered prayers for strength and comfort for Okanlawon’s family, friends and all those who were close to him.
Although his death has been confirmed by his colleague, details surrounding the cause of his death have not been disclosed.
Okanlawon’s passing has since sparked mourning among colleagues and members of the Nigerian gospel music community.
