The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for individuals who stormed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, disrupting the Council of State elections in Kumasi.
Eyewitnesses reported that the attackers forcefully entered the venue, overturned tables, destroyed ballot boxes, and scattered voting materials, leading Electoral Commission (EC) officials to suspend the process.
The chaos is believed to have been triggered by the unexpected defeat of National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, who was widely expected to win. Aggrieved supporters allegedly instigated the violence, demanding a review of the results.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service confirmed that investigations are underway, with authorities reviewing all available footage to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Police have assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice, emphasizing their commitment to upholding law and order.
