The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has confirmed a violent attack on its staff members while commuting from Kasoa to work on Thursday morning.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Richmond Rockson, revealed that the attackers were officers of the Ghana Police Service.
“The initial report we had was that the attackers were national security operatives, but upon further checks, we realised they were officers of the Ghana Police Service. One is with the CID and the others are part of the Emergency Response Unit,” he stated.
According to Rockson, three staff members sustained minor injuries, while another was critically injured and taken to the Police Hospital for treatment, and has subsequently been detained.
“Yesterday, he was limping and complaining of pains in the jaw and back. The Minister has advised that he seeks a second opinion to ensure he receives the best medical care,” he added.
Rockson said Minister John Jinapor is deeply upset by the incident, condemns it in the strongest terms, and will closely monitor the case to ensure justice is served.
Footage of the incident, first shared by The1957News on social media, shows the attackers engaging violently with the Ministry staff.
Reports suggest the incident began after the Ministry bus came across a pickup truck parked almost in the middle of the road, making it difficult for the bus to merge onto the main highway.
Once the bus managed to pass, a passenger reportedly confronted the pickup driver about the obstruction.
Moments later, the pickup allegedly pursued the Ministry bus at high speed, crossing it dangerously twice, before forcing an occupant through a window while others attempted to board the vehicle.
