Police launch investigation into clash at Agona Swedru schools athletics games

The Ghana Police Service has begun investigations into a violent incident that disrupted the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru in the Central Region on February 19.

The sporting event, which was meant to showcase student talent, descended into chaos after a disagreement reportedly erupted between athletes from two participating schools.

The clash involved students from Obrachire Senior High Technical School and Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS), and quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

Reports indicate that during the disturbance, a student from Obrachire was attacked by a group believed to be affiliated with SWESBUS. The student was allegedly assaulted with sticks and stones before bystanders stepped in to restore order.

Videos circulating on social media captured the tense aftermath, showing a crowd gathered around the injured student. He was later transported to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment.

In a statement, the police condemned the violence and assured the public that individuals found culpable would face the full rigours of the law.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities seek to establish the circumstances that triggered the clash and identify all those involved.
