The Akwatia District Police Command has begun investigations into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during events at Akwatia on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Akwatia Lorry Station in the Vawaso Electoral Area during the by-election, when tensions escalated between Alhaji Masawudu and the escort of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.
Alhaji Masawudu, recounting the altercation, said it happened while he was addressing the media near the Akwatia Zongo area, where he had been deployed to monitor the polls.
A statement issued by the Eastern South Regional Police Command on Thursday, September 4, 2025, confirmed that the NPP executive was issued with a medical form for treatment, which is expected to be returned to assist the investigation.
The case has since been referred to the Eastern South Regional Command for further action.
The statement, signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit, assured the public that the police remain committed to conducting a thorough and impartial probe.
