The Oti Region is increasingly under scrutiny as a suspected smuggling corridor after a major drug interception at the Dambai police barrier.
A long trailer truck, registration number GW 1943-09, was stopped by officers during routine checks after raising suspicion of transporting illicit substances.
Adom News investigations indicate that Lance Corporal Kwame Boateng, Corporal Emmanuel Adjei, and Lance Corporal Iddi Baba were on duty, questioning both the driver and his companion at the time of the interception.
Preliminary observations suggested that the truck’s structure had been modified in a manner consistent with concealment tactics used by traffickers.
During the inspection, officers reportedly discovered 400,000 parcels of dry leaves believed to be marijuana, tightly packed and concealed within the vehicle’s frame. An empty container placed on top is said to have been used to divert attention from the suspected contraband.
In a dramatic turn, the driver reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. His companion was arrested and is assisting police with investigations, as authorities work to locate the fleeing suspect and determine the full scope of the operation.
The latest seizure adds to a series of recent enforcement actions in the region. Reports indicate that, within the past 24 hours, police in Dambai rejected a GH¢50,000 bribe attempt, intercepted an ammunition consignment, and seized a locally manufactured firearm.
In another development, the Nkwanta South Police command reportedly seized another truck suspected of carrying marijuana after an attempted obstruction. The intercepted vehicle remains at the Dambai police barrier as investigations continue.
Police officials have confirmed the operation, including details on the suspected substance, estimated quantity, and potential prosecutions.
These developments underscore a renewed law enforcement push against drug trafficking and related crimes, as security agencies intensify efforts to curb smuggling routes across the Oti Region.
