The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt for 41-year-old Wahibu Bukari, who allegedly shot his wife during a domestic dispute at Anum in the Assin North District of the Central Region.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 17, left 35-year-old Faustina Ackom with gunshot wounds to her left inner arm and breast. She is currently receiving treatment at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu.
According to eyewitness accounts, the couple, married for ten years with four children, had a heated altercation around 12:30 a.m. after Bukari reportedly confronted Faustina over multiple phone numbers he discovered on her mobile phone.
One neighbour, Lydia Yeboah, told reporters that Bukari, who had been unwell for some time, accused his wife, a trader, of infidelity. The argument escalated, and as Faustina attempted to escape, Bukari allegedly shot her.
Her screams for help drew neighbours to the scene, who quickly rushed her to hospital. Bukari fled immediately after the attack and is believed to be hiding in areas such as Assin Fosu, Kushia, or Twifo Praso.
Police investigators from the Assin Fosu Divisional Command have since visited the victim in hospital to assess her condition and gather information to support ongoing investigations.
Authorities have appealed to the public to assist with credible information that could lead to the suspect’s arrest.
