Police are on the hunt for two young girls, believed to be between the ages of 10 and 16, who allegedly stole GHS 40,000 and an unspecified amount of gold from a gold-buying agent in Twifo Praso, located in the Twifo Atti Morkwa District of the Central Region.
CCTV footage circulating on social media shows the girls entering the shop around 11 a.m. yesterday, reportedly to purchase mercury for gold extraction.
Upon arrival, they noticed the shop attendant was absent. Seizing the opportunity, the older girl searched a drawer and took the cash along with the gold.
As they attempted to leave, they encountered the shop attendant at the entrance. Instead of fleeing, they returned inside and proceeded with their mercury purchase, avoiding suspicion.
The theft remained undiscovered until two hours later when another customer arrived to sell gold. It was then that the attendant realized the money and gold were missing.
Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
