Three suspected members of a counterfeit currency syndicate have been arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Ghana Police Service in the Eastern Region.
The suspects — Ebenezer Natsu, 20; George Attor, 48; and Bishop Robert Olertey, 54 — were apprehended by officers from the Odumase-Krobo Police after they were found in possession of a large quantity of counterfeit United States dollars.
Police said the suspects had 105 bundles of fake $100 notes, amounting to $1,050,000, concealed in a black and red-spotted metal trunk at their hideout at Laasi, a suburb of Odumase-Krobo.
According to police sources, the arrests were made on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, following a carefully planned undercover operation based on intelligence received by the Odumase-Krobo Police team led by D/Cpl Williams Asante.

Investigators believe the suspects were preparing to circulate the counterfeit notes during the Odumase-Krobo market day, where they intended to exchange the fake dollars for Ghana cedis.
Police sources also revealed that one of the suspects, Bishop Robert Olertey, allegedly attempted to bribe officers with GH¢200,000 in genuine cash in an effort to avoid arrest. The officers, however, rejected the offer and proceeded with the arrest.
The suspects were subsequently transported together with the exhibits to the Odumase-Krobo District Police Command for further investigation.
The case has since been transferred to the Akosombo Police Division, led by Chief Superintendent Doris Grant, for further action.
Meanwhile, one of the suspects, Ebenezer Natsu, was arraigned before the Odumase Circuit Court on Friday, March 13, 2026, where he was remanded into custody to assist with investigations. The two other suspects have been granted police enquiry bail as investigations continue.
