Police arrest two men, reject GH₵100,000 Bribe in 209-slab narcotics seizure

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men in the Central Region’s Agona Swedru area after intercepting 209 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotics, and rejecting an alleged GH₵100,000 bribe offered by the suspects.

The individuals, 28-year-old Godfred Acquah and 34-year-old Awudu Usman, were taken into custody on February 24, 2026, around 8:30 a.m. along the Agona Asafo–Kwesitwukwaa road.

Police initially recovered 154 slabs hidden in four nylon sacks from a taxi with registration number GR 2932-26 in which the men were travelling. A subsequent search at Usman’s residence in Asisim, a suburb of Agona Swedru, uncovered an additional 55 slabs, bringing the total seizure to 209. Authorities say Usman claimed ownership of the substances found in his home.

The Central Regional Police Command added that the suspects allegedly offered GH₵100,000 to the officers to avoid prosecution, but the bribe was firmly rejected.

The two men are expected to appear in court to face charges related to the seizure.
