The Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack on an Indian national in Obuasi and a separate plot to rob a distribution company in the same area.

The suspects, identified as Iddrisu Fuseini, also known as “Iddi,” and Shaibu Mohammed, alias “SM” or “Cicinati,” were picked up in intelligence-led operations conducted between April 16 and April 20, 2026.

In a statement, the police said Fuseini was arrested at his hideout in Bedieso following a tip-off about a planned armed attack in Obuasi. During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to being part of a six-member gang that carried out a robbery at New Baakoyeden on April 12, 2026.

The gang is said to have attacked an Indian national at his residence and made away with GH₵150,000. Investigators say the operation was facilitated by an insider, identified as Ibrahim—an employee of the victim—who allegedly tipped off the gang about large sums of money kept in the house.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Mohammed at Gausu on April 20. He is said to have admitted involvement in planning the earlier robbery and disclosed that the group had also targeted a distribution company near Mawuli Hotel for another attack.

Police say both suspects are currently standing trial before the Obuasi Circuit Court over a separate robbery case involving GH₵600,000.

Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for other members of the gang identified as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim. Authorities believe the suspects are in possession of a pump-action gun and a locally manufactured pistol.

Police have assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the weapons, while urging residents to volunteer information to support ongoing investigations.
