The Ghana Police Service, through the National Operations Directorate’s Surveillance Unit, has arrested a suspect at Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region for possession of suspected counterfeit foreign currency and an unauthorised firearm.
The suspect, identified as Josiah Elorm Kwame Amezado, was arrested following intelligence suggesting that a self-styled fetish priest in the area was allegedly involved in criminal activities and in possession of a firearm, posing a potential threat to public safety.
A search conducted in the suspect’s room led to the discovery of quantities of United States dollar notes in one-hundred-dollar denominations, believed to be counterfeit.
Police also retrieved a pair of handcuffs, a black vest, a Kuzey A100 blank pistol, and fifty-eight rounds of 9mm blank ammunition during the operation.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Authorities are working to establish the source and authenticity of the recovered currency, as well as the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and other seized items.
The Ghana Police Service has indicated that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
