The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting that occurred at the Odupongkpehe polling station in Kasoa during the 2024 elections.
According to Oyerepa News correspondent Nana Ansah, one person was critically injured at the Odupongkpehe polling station during the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
The suspect, Mujahid Suraj, also known as Mims, went into hiding after firing a pump-action gun during the elections, which resulted in the critical injury.
An eyewitness who spoke to Nana Ansah said the suspect had targeted Tamimu Tanko, a constituency executive of the NDC, but missed his intended target and instead shot a voter who was in the queue to cast their vote.
While some have linked the incident to politics, others believe it was related to an existing feud between the suspect and his intended target, Tamimu Tanko.
The suspect was arrested on the night of Saturday, January 17, 2026, by the Kasoa Divisional Command following intelligence that he had returned to his residence at Odupongkpehe Zongo in Kasoa.
Mujahid Suraj has been remanded in police custody for one month by the Kasoa Akweley District Court and is set to reappear in court on February 20, 2026.
