The Ghana Police Service has arrested social media personality Christford Affadu Danful, popularly known as Ekow Black, in connection with a viral video that shows him physically assaulting a woman.
In a statement, the Police said the suspect was arrested on Thursday, January 15, 2026, following an intelligence-led operation carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting Team in collaboration with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect captured in a viral video physically assaulting a woman,” the statement said.
According to the Police, preliminary investigations suggest that Danful and the victim had previously lived together and maintained a strained relationship marked by frequent disagreements, some of which allegedly escalated into verbal and physical confrontations.
“Initial investigations indicate that the suspect and the woman, who formerly cohabited, had a history of disputes that allegedly degenerated into assaults,” the statement added.
The arrest follows widespread public outrage on social media, where many users condemned the act and called for accountability, particularly because the suspect is a public figure with a significant online following.
Danful, who is well known for his online content, is currently in police custody as investigations continue.
“Suspect Danful is in lawful custody and will be put before court to face the appropriate charges in accordance with the law,” the Police stated.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens and dealing decisively with acts of violence, regardless of a suspect’s social status or popularity on social media platforms.
