Following searches at their residence and other locations the couple was believed to have visited, and based on information from family members, the remains of the couple were recovered. The remains have since been conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Speaking at a press briefing, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said investigations established that the suspect, Abraham Awundo, who worked as an errand boy for the couple, had visited them.

On 30th August 2026, the suspect was deported from Dubai to Ghana by a team of investigators from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the murder.

In a separate development, the Police have arrested one suspect in connection with a series of robbery attacks targeting banks and bank customers within Accra and Tema.
Addressing the media, the IGP said his attention was drawn in early April 2026 to complaints from customers who patronize various banks within the Greater Accra Metropolis about attacks by criminals.
Intelligence indicated that a suspected robbery group usually monitored their victims after bank withdrawals, used a master key to open their vehicles, and in some instances broke into the vehicles. The group was also believed to be planning attacks on some banks.
Based on this information, the IGP tasked the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the IGP (SOA) to mount surveillance on the activities of the suspected group at various banks.
On 9th June and 11th June 2026, the syndicate was spotted operating at some banks on board a Toyota Highlander and other vehicles.
The IGP cited specific incidents: On 17th May 2026, a suspect robbed a lady at Abossey Okai in Tema of GH¢15,000 after she had withdrawn the amount from a bank in Tema. On 11th June 2026, the gang attacked a young man at Achimota after he had withdrawn a substantial amount of money from a bank and was on his way home.
On 13th August 2026, the surveillance team received credible information that the robbery gang had been spotted at a bank on the Spintex Road and was heading towards Labone.
The team monitored the suspects who were on board a black Toyota Corolla with registration number GS 7915-19 and a Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 1418-19. Intelligence further indicated that the gang leaders, named Harrison Chinedu and Dan, were always armed.
The suspects were later spotted at Labone where they had positioned themselves strategically between Zenith Bank, GCB Bank and Ecobank, monitoring the banks in a bid to launch an attack. Following a swift response from the police team, the planned attack was foiled. Two of the suspects were shot, one managed to escape, and one was arrested.
A search conducted in the Toyota Highlander led to the retrieval of 13 different vehicle number plates and a Blow F90 pistol.
Investigations revealed that the suspects bring vehicles into the country and change the Nigerian number plates to Ghanaian ones to undertake their criminal activities. The arrested suspect, 49-year-old Augustine Okechukwu Manzie, has been remanded by the court into lawful custody.
The Police say efforts are underway to dismantle other robbery camps and arrest the remaining accomplices.
