Members of the family of incarcerated Gregory Afoko have expressed their gratitude to the former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Builsa North Constituency for allowing them to extend the Justice for Gregory Afoko campaign to President John D. Mahama.
The aggrieved family members were denied access to meet and present a petition to the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), when he visited the overlord of the Builsa Traditional Area, Nab Azag-Suk Azantilow II, on Friday, July 26, 2024.
The story was different when the former President, John Mahama, visited the area. The family met John Dramani Mahama without any blockade when he visited the overlord last week Tuesday.
The family was allowed to extend its Justice for Gregory Afoko campaign to former President John Mahama last week in Sandema when he visited the Royal family as part of his campaign tour to the Upper East Region.
The aggrieved family members stood at the entrance to the palace (man-cave / Kusung) dressed in T-shirts and holding placards to welcome the former President to the palace just to draw his attention to the plight of Gregory.
According to the aggrieved family members, Gregory’s human rights are being abused as an accused person since he is being denied bail through the machinations of agents of the government led by the Attorney-General.
Gregory Afoko is standing trial for the murder of former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Adams Mahama.
Cynthia Afoko, a daughter of Gregory Afoko, in an interview with the media said the refusal of the courts to grant bail to her father is an abuse of the rights of Mr. Greg Afoko, who has been in prison for the past eight years as an accused person.
