Some workers at various toll booths in Ghana have warned the Akufo-Addo-led administration to pay them their locked arears.
The tollbooth agents claim the government owes them 8 months salaries.
According to them, the directive from the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako Atta which has affected over twenty thousand people is having an adverse impact on their livelihoods.
This followed the announcement made by the Finance Minister during the 2022 budget preparation to Parliament, where he said the decision was to take effect after Parliament approves the budget.
In an interview with the Chairman for the Tollbooths Agents in the Ashanti Region Alhaji Abubakar Salifu on Oyerepa breakfast show, he disclosed that they have lost three of their members due to the action taken by the government.
“As I speak with you, three of our members have died because they cannot handle the pressure of not being able to feed their families. For how long can this go on? What do they want us to do ?” he inquired.
Alhaji Abubakar further called on the government to pay them their arrears and also reassign them as promised by Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta else there will be bloodshed.
“The Finance minister said we will be reassigned to a different sector so that is what we are demanding from him. He should pay us our money and reassign us as promised else there will be bloodshed. We are going to petition the Parliament House, the Judiciary and the Jubilee House in our numbers,“ he stated.
