The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced plans to open passport application centers in all 16 regions of Ghana.
This initiative aims to reduce the overwhelming demand on the existing facility in Accra, which has been struggling with long processing times and congestion.
Addressing Parliament on Thursday, March 12, Ablakwa emphasized that decentralizing passport services will make the process more accessible to all Ghanaians, eliminating the need to travel to the capital.
“Our goal is to make passport acquisition more convenient for all citizens by regionalizing application centers,” he stated.
He also highlighted ongoing reforms designed to enhance efficiency, including 24-hour operations, shorter processing times, and courier services for passport delivery. Once the regional offices are fully operational, these improvements will significantly streamline the application process.
Currently, the Accra passport center handles a large volume of applications, often resulting in delays. The new regional centers are expected to alleviate this burden and improve service delivery nationwide.
