Dr. Eric Bempong, a lecturer at KAAF University, has criticized the establishment of Parliament’s Special Committee to investigate disturbances that occurred during the Appointments Committee sittings, describing it as irrelevant.
According to Dr. Bempong, the committee’s formation is redundant and a waste of resources, as existing parliamentary and legal mechanisms are sufficient to address any issues that arose during the sittings. He argued that Parliament should focus on more pressing national matters instead of engaging in prolonged internal investigations.
During a panel discussion on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, he emphasized that disturbances within parliamentary proceedings can be managed through established rules and disciplinary measures, making the Special Committee’s intervention unwarranted.
“The creation of a Special Committee for this issue is completely unnecessary. Parliament has internal procedures to handle such matters, and diverting attention to this investigation only delays important legislative work,” Dr. Bempong stated.
He urged lawmakers to prioritize governance and policy-making instead of engaging in what he sees as an avoidable probe into parliamentary proceedings.
