Clement Nana Sarfo, popularly known as Papa Kumasi in the Ghanaian movie industry, has criticized television stations for prioritizing foreign telenovelas.
In a recent interview, the Kumawood actor expressed his concern that most TV stations dedicate their prime time slots to airing foreign telenovelas.
“The time that the TV stations allocate for our local series or telenovelas is sometimes deep in the night like around 10 or 11 pm,” he complained.
“Unlike the foreign telenovelas which have been translated into the local languages which are rather allocated the peak time on TV to get a lot of viewership.
“So how can we survive when we are rather showcasing what belongs to others instead of our local content and now people patronize the foreign ones,” he fumed.
He continued “This has made a lot of people lose interest in the local telenovelas and series that we do here in Ghana and besides the foreign ones are causing us problems”.
