Taskforce for Smuggled Vegetable Oil has impounded over a thousand pieces (gallons) of vegetable cooking oil in the Kumasi markets alone
The cooking oils according to the Taskforce were smuggled into the country without paying the necessary import duties and taxes on them.
The taskforce also said these products have not been approved by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) as the law demands.
The taskforce is made up of the Oil Palm Development Association of Ghana (OPDAG), the National Security, Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), the Customs Division and the Tree Crop Development Authority.
The nationwide exercise according to Dr Paul Kwambena Amaning Coordinator for the taskforce aims at safeguarding the Ghanaian consumer and also making sure smuggled products and oil are kicked out of the market across the country.
Speaking to the media after the taskforce discovered over a thousand pieces (gallons) of unregistered cooking oil at a warehouse close to the Abenkyi Market, Dr Paul Kwambena Amaning assured Ghanaians that, they are going to make sure unsafe food gets out of the market and also protect the internet of the country and local oil producers.
