A devastating fire swept through the girls’ dormitory at Labone Senior High School in Accra on Sunday, March 16, 2025, leaving over 100 students stranded.
The blaze, which started at exactly 1:00 PM in the afternoon, ravaged three out of six dormitories, with two dormitories completely destroyed and one sustaining partial damage.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, thanks to the prompt response of emergency services, including the Ghana National Fire Service.
School authorities suspect an electrical fault may have caused the fire, but the exact cause remains under investigation. The affected students, who are primarily boarders, will now either commute from home as day students or live with their parents.
When Oyerepa news reporter Bernard K Dadzie visited the school, he observed that the affected rooms were burnt to ashes, with some students’ belongings destroyed by the fire.
The school authorities are working diligently to provide support to the affected students and investigate the cause of the fire.
However, urgent assistance is needed from the government, Ghana Education Service, and stakeholders to provide immediate relief to the students.
This support is crucial in addressing the students’ pressing needs, ensuring they have a safe place to sleep and can continue their lessons without disruption.
