A fire outbreak at Mallam Atta Market in the Ayawaso Central Municipality of the Greater Accra Region has left one person injured and destroyed several properties.

The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, November 12, 2025, and spread through parts of the market before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) brought it under control.

Speaking to Adom News, one of the victims, Gifty, said she lost valuable goods and resources in the blaze.
“I lost everything in the fire — fridges, cash, and other goods. I really need help to start again,” she said in an emotional appeal.

Her husband, Isaac Boakye Nyarko, also recounted the incident.
“The fire started from a nearby shop. We tried our best to control it, but the flames spread quickly and engulfed our cold store,” he said.
“It destroyed live animals, wooden structures, and a chop bar. Everything is gone.”

Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, DO2 Desmond Ackah, confirmed the details of the operation.

“The fire was brought under control at 12:01 a.m. and completely extinguished at 12:24 a.m. Twelve wooden structures — six used as dwellings and six as shops — were destroyed, while a 40-foot container used as a cold store was partially burnt,” he stated.
He added that the firefighters’ swift and tactical response helped save several nearby structures from total destruction.
“No injuries were recorded, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation,” DO2 Ackah noted.

However, some eyewitnesses reported otherwise. Kwame Ayisi, who spoke to Adom News, claimed that one person was injured during the incident.

“A young man, believed to be in his late 20s, sustained burns on his head while trying to escape the fire,” Ayisi said.
“He was rushed to the hospital yesterday evening for treatment.”

Other eyewitnesses added that the fire could have spread further if not for a single container that acted as a barrier between the burning shops and the rest of the market.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
