One dead, scores injured in head-on Collision at Ejisu

One person has died and numerous passengers sustained injuries following a head-on collision between two commercial vehicles at Ejisu-Krapa along the Kumasi-Accra highway.

According to reports, the driver of a blue Toyota Hiace bus with registration AS-3552-20 allegedly failed its brakes while descending a hill at high speed. The bus reportedly veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a Ford bus transporting passengers from Kumasi to Ejisu township.

The incident involved approximately 30 passengers, many of whom sustained various degrees of injury and were rushed to Living Waters Hospital in the area. Hospital officials confirmed that eleven patients are undergoing surgery, while the remaining victims are in stable condition with multiple lacerations.

One person, believed to be a septuagenarian, died at the hospital. Among the victims were two students – a female secondary school student and a nursing trainee – who were on their way to school at the time of the accident.

Dr. Gabriel Sakyi Kwofie, Medical Director at the hospital, expressed optimism that the injured patients would soon be stabilised.

The mangled vehicles have since been towed off the road to restore traffic flow.

Eyewitnesses have called for traffic lights at the intersection to prevent similar accidents in the future.
