A fatal road crash involving a KIA Rhino truck and a saloon car has claimed one life at the Ako Adjei Interchange in Accra in the early hours of Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The deceased was the driver of a Zedrive saloon car with registration number GW 6334-26, who became trapped in the wreckage after the vehicle collided with a KIA Rhino truck bearing registration number GE 1120-15.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), a distress call was received at 1:16 a.m., prompting a rescue team from the Service’s headquarters to immediately proceed to the scene.

The team, led by Assistant Divisional Officer I (ADO I) Yussif Yakubu, arrived within six minutes and found the driver pinned inside the severely damaged vehicle. A medical examination conducted at the scene confirmed that the victim had died.

Firefighters subsequently carried out a rescue and recovery operation, using specialized equipment to remove sections of the damaged car, including the driver’s door and steering wheel, in order to retrieve the body. The operation was successfully completed at 2:14 a.m.

Preliminary findings indicate that the saloon car crashed into the rear of a stationary KIA Rhino truck, which had reportedly developed a mechanical fault and was parked on the road at the time of the incident.

Authorities have, however, launched further investigations to establish the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
