A Ghanaian philanthropist based in the United States of America, Mrs Grace Adu, Chief Executive Officer of the Ohemaa Kwartemaa Foundation, has donated mathematical sets and pens to 300 BECE candidates in four schools in the Central Region.
The donation, valued at GH¢9,000, was distributed to Kushea Anglican JHS, Kushea M/A JHS, Abotreye D/A Basic and JHS, and Atweneboana JHS.
Speaking on behalf of the CEO, a member of the foundation, Mr Charles Adu, explained that the foundation had previously supported the beneficiary schools with educational materials such as exercise books last year. He noted that the latest donation was a fulfilment of a promise made to continue the support if students performed well in the BECE.
According to him, the students met expectations, prompting the renewed intervention.
He said the initiative is aimed at improving education in deprived communities.
“The aim of the Ohemaa Kwartemaa Foundation is to support students in deprived areas. We have distributed over 300 mathematical sets and are determined to extend this support to more schools. Ohemaa Kwartemaa is also calling on parents to pay more attention to their wards’ education,” he stated.
Headmasters of Kushea Anglican JHS, Mr Michael Quansah, and Kushea M/A JHS, Mr Douglas Otoo, expressed gratitude to the foundation, assuring that they would work hard to improve academic performance and uplift the image of their schools.
They also commended the sustained support from the foundation, noting that it has positively impacted students’ preparedness for examinations.
On behalf of all beneficiary schools, one of the headmasters said the donation would go a long way to support teaching and learning. He urged students to take their studies seriously, stressing that their background should not be a limitation to success.
He further recalled that previous donations had yielded positive results and said teachers remain committed to preparing students for the upcoming BECE.
The beneficiary students also expressed appreciation to the Ohemaa Kwartemaa Foundation and pledged to make good use of the items provided to support their academic work.
