Eugene Boakye Antwi, a Subin Member of Parliament (MP), has pushed President Nana Akufo-Addo to keep his word and dismiss Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s ‘Ekosii Sen’, the former Deputy Works and Housing Minister alerted Akufo-Addo that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has competent men and women to lead Ghana.
He, therefore, cannot fathom why President Akufo-Addo has not sacked Mr Ofori-Atta despite the numerous calls and pressure.
“We told Ghanaians that we have the men and must demonstrate that. We must change Ken Ofori-Atta now. Why are we acting as if there are no men in NPP? We would stand for the right things to be done. What is it about Ken Ofori-Atta that he cannot be sacked?” he quizzed.
The President’s cousin has been subjected to severe pressure to step aside or be fired, with the argument that his performance as Finance Minister since his appointment has been mediocre at best.
President Akufo-Addo appears to believe the calls are unjustified because Mr Ofori-Atta has performed admirably despite the covid-19 pandemic.
However, some NPP MPs joined in the chorus on Tuesday calling for the Minister’s dismissal as soon as possible.
According to news stories, President Akufo-Addo met with these aggrieved MPs and asked them to give Mr Ofori-Atta three weeks to finish the discussions with the International Monetary Fund.
