The Member of Parliament for Offinso South in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Isaac Yaw Opoku, has commissioned a fully equipped ultra-modern maternity block at the Aboagye Health Centre, marking a major boost to maternal healthcare delivery in the area.
The facility, which contains more than 50 beds and state-of-the-art equipment, is expected to significantly enhance care for pregnant women and new mothers within the constituency and beyond.

Speaking to Oyerepa News during the commissioning ceremony, Dr. Opoku said the project was inspired by a personal encounter that revealed the urgent need for improved maternal care in the community.
“I was born here. One day, I paid a visit to this centre and saw a pregnant woman receiving treatment in very poor conditions. I felt sad, so I promised to build a maternity block for them, the most important moment in every woman’s life is when she is giving birth. This facility will provide a better and more conducive environment for delivery.” he said.

According to him, the project goes beyond the building itself, as he also supplied the equipment needed to run the maternity unit effectively.
“I requested a list of what they needed—beds, theatre lamps, office tables, and other essential items—and I provided them. We want to upgrade this health centre to a polyclinic in the near future,” he added.
Dr. Opoku further urged management of the facility to adopt a strong maintenance culture to ensure the longevity of the building and equipment.

“I advise the authorities of the health centre to maintain the equipment properly to ensure it lasts longer,” he said.
As part of the event, the MP also donated GH¢1,000 each to 180 women in the constituency to help them expand their businesses. He revealed that he had earlier provided financial support of GH¢1,000 each to 100 students to aid their education.

The Offinso South Health Director, Mrs. Odwere Marian Ntim, expressed deep appreciation to Dr. Opoku for the project and appealed for further support from other stakeholders.
“We are grateful to the MP for providing us this facility. It will help improve healthcare delivery in the area, We also call on government and the general public to come to our aid to support us further.” he said.
The commissioning of the maternity block has been widely welcomed by residents, who believe it will go a long way toward reducing maternal health challenges in the Offinso South area.
