Residents of Offinso Sakam in the Offinso South Municipality are crying out for assistance to address a long-standing environmental concern – a refuse dump that has plagued their community for 45 years.
In an interview with Oyerepa News’ Dominic Duut, Nana Obeng Amponsah Akyieno said the dump, located in the heart of the community, has become a health hazard and an eyesore, affecting residents’ quality of life.
The putrid smell, breeding of disease-carrying pests, and contaminated water sources have become unbearable.
However, the leaders of the community are urging authorities, including the Offinso South Municipal Assembly and environmental agencies, to intervene and help dig out the refuse dump, else they will not vote in the upcoming election in 2024.
“We’ve lived with this dump for far too long. Our children’s health is at risk, and our community’s beauty is lost. We need help,” said Nana Obeng Amponsah Akyieno Ababio, Nana Samkamhene.
The community has made repeated appeals to local authorities but has seen little action.
Residents in Offinso Samkam call on the relevant authorities to heed the community’s plea and address this pressing environmental issue.
