Obogu Saviour Church holds mass burial for 16 members killed in accident [Photos]

The Obogu community in the Asante-Akim South Municipality has held a mass burial ceremony for 16 young members of the Saviour Church Youth Ministry who died in a tragic road accident on the Juaso-Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway.

The victims were returning from a church congress in Koforidua when the accident occurred.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that a fuel tanker heading toward Accra burst a tyre while overtaking another vehicle. The tanker veered into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Ford Transit bus transporting the youth.

Fifteen passengers died on the spot, while four others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to nearby health facilities for emergency care.

In Obogu, grief has enveloped the community as families, church members, and traditional leaders gathered to mourn the devastating loss and pay their final respects during the mass burial.

Leaders of the Saviour Church described the tragedy as one of the darkest moments in the church’s history, calling for unity and spiritual strength in these trying times.
