The Ghana Police Service has reportedly arrested the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye.
Details of his arrest remain unclear, but it follows a high-profile security raid on the residence of Moses Abor, former NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser. Security officers had stormed his home on Sunday in search of Abronye—an operation that has since attracted sharp public criticism.
The development comes just days after Abronye formally petitioned eight foreign embassies—including those of Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Canada—seeking political asylum.
In his petitions, the outspoken NPP regional chairman alleged that he has been the target of growing political intimidation, threats to his life, and abuse of state security powers by the current government. He argued that these conditions put him and his family at risk, hence his appeal for international protection.
Neither the police nor party officials have yet issued an official statement on the arrest.
