The Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Masawudu Osman, was allegedly assaulted during the ongoing by-election in Akwatia.
The incident is reported to have occurred at the Akwatia Main Lorry Station, where two polling centres are situated. The exact cause of the confrontation remains unclear, but the alleged attacker is said to be linked to supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.
Confirming the development to Adom News, Alhaji Osman stated that he has officially lodged a complaint with the Ghana Police Service and is awaiting their response.
He further appealed for calm, stressing that there should be no retaliation. According to him, though he and Chief Azorka both hail from Tamale and hold traditional titles, it is crucial that peace is upheld throughout the electoral process.
