The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to march to the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Monday, July 13, 2026, to demand answers over the arrest of its Director of Communications, Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

The party says the protest is intended to seek clarity on the circumstances surrounding Aboagye’s arrest, which it believes raises concerns about the treatment of opposition figures.

Speaking on Channel One News on Sunday, July 12, 2026, the NPP’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, claimed that Aboagye was arrested without receiving any prior invitation or notification from EOCO regarding an investigation or any alleged offence.

According to him, the party has not been informed of the reasons behind the arrest.

“Miracles has not received any invitation from EOCO. He has not been informed of any wrongdoing. He has not been told that he is under any form of investigation,” Nana Boakye said.

He further expressed concern over what he described as the increasing use of state institutions to target political opponents, arguing that such actions could undermine Ghana’s democratic principles.

Despite these concerns, Nana Boakye stressed that the NPP remains committed to the rule of law and would cooperate with any legitimate investigation involving its members, provided due legal process is followed.

The planned march follows claims by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, who disclosed in a Facebook post that Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officials with the assistance of Immigration officers at the Accra International Airport.

Kodua further alleged that Aboagye’s lawyers had been denied access to him, that his whereabouts were unknown, and that no formal charges had been communicated to the party.

At the time of publication, EOCO had not issued an official statement on the arrest or responded publicly to the allegations made by the NPP.
