General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has announced that the party will hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
This follows the National Council’s adoption of a proposal from the party’s Constitution Review Committee.
Mr. Kodua clarified that the date is final and does not require further approval from the National Delegates Conference, as the National Council has the authority to approve such matters.
“The date for our presidential primaries is set for January 31, 2026. That will be the day we elect our flagbearer. A planning committee has also been established to oversee the process as part of broader constitutional amendments,” he stated.
Meanwhile, a nine-member committee chaired by former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei Owusu has been tasked with planning the upcoming National Delegates Conference scheduled for July 2025.
The conference will consider other proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.
With growing anticipation within the party’s rank and file, the primary is expected to attract significant interest from both longstanding members and new contenders seeking to lead the NPP into the next electoral cycle.
Party officials have indicated that nomination guidelines, timelines for campaign activities, and the code of conduct for aspirants will be released in the coming weeks.
The NEC has assured party members of a transparent and credible process that upholds the democratic values of the NPP.
