The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has firmly rejected the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct fresh elections in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North constituency, calling the move “shocking, disingenuous, and unlawful.”
The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, expressed the NPP’s displeasure in a statement, noting that their representatives had opposed the idea during a meeting with the EC on July 1, 2025.
He emphasized that the decision contradicts prior agreements and marks an unexpected reversal by the EC.
The Electoral Commission had earlier cited unverified results as the basis for the proposed rerun. However, the NPP insists the EC had already been compelled by a High Court in Accra to complete the collation process in the four remaining constituencies, including Ablekuma North.
In compliance with the court order, the EC reportedly began collating results from the remaining 64 polling stations in the constituency with participation from party agents. The NPP argues that this process should continue rather than be replaced with reruns in 19 of the polling stations.
The party has vowed to challenge the EC’s decision and pursue every legal avenue to safeguard its electoral interests. The development adds to growing tension between the NPP and the EC as the parties prepare for upcoming electoral processes.
