Flagbearer hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned party delegates to be vigilant against what he described as a calculated campaign of insults and falsehoods aimed at undermining his bid in the upcoming presidential primaries.
Speaking during a campaign tour at Manso Adubia in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, January 20, Dr Bawumia said intelligence available to his team indicates that with just two weeks to the primaries, some opponents are planning to resort to personal attacks rather than focus on substantive issues.
“If you miss the ball, don’t miss the man,” he said, explaining that the insults are not meant to address policy differences but to deliberately undermine his credibility.
“A few days ago, we received intelligence that, with two weeks left to the primary, they are planning a strategy to insult me and spread lies about me,” Dr Bawumia told delegates.
“So be alert and wary. You will hear a lot of lies about me. They want to change your minds. Don’t mind them. Go and vote for me.”
The Vice President stressed that the NPP’s internal contest should not be reduced to an exchange of insults, adding that such tactics are often employed when a campaign is struggling.
“This is not an insulting competition, but because they know their campaign is failing, that is why they are saying, ‘If you miss the ball, don’t miss the man,’” he said.
Despite the anticipated attacks, Dr Bawumia assured delegates that he remains focused on winning the primaries and leading the party into the 2026 general elections.
“They want to insult me, but I won’t mind them. I am focused on victory,” he stated.
Dr Bawumia has been touring various regions across the country as part of efforts to canvass support from NPP delegates ahead of the party’s crucial presidential primary.
