The First Deputy Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament and Member of Parliament for Asante Bekwai constituency Joseph Osei-Owusu (Joe Wise), disclosed his intention to leave parliament after sixteen years.
According to the Bekwai MP, he will not contest the Asante Bekwai seat in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries.
“I’ll not contest again. I’m making way for a different face; I have done my part for the constituency, and it is time for me to rest for another person to continue.” Joewise revealed this in an interview with Kwesi Parker Wilson on Oyerepapa Breakfast Time.
Mr Joe Osei-Owusu won the Asante-Bekwai Constituency seat as an independent parliamentary candidate in the 2008 general election.
He pulled 34,700 votes to unseat the incumbent NPP candidate, Mr Ignatius Kofi Poku Adusei, who had 8,560 votes in the parliamentary elections.
Joe Wise has since maintained his seat for four consecutive terms as MP for the Asante-Bekwai Constituency.
