NPP moves to expel Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it has revoked relevant provisions of its constitution to initiate proceedings to expel former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng.
The decision follows remarks made by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng on Accra-based Channel One TV on January 12, 2026, in which he described the NPP as a “fake party” and stated that he no longer considers himself a member.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng also alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favour of then Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In response, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Koduah issued a statement describing the comments as “highly reprehensible” and inconsistent with the party’s values, integrity, and unity.
The statement emphasised that the party strongly rejects the description of the NPP as “fake” and dismissed the allegations of rigging as unsubstantiated.
On the conduct of the 2023 primaries, the party maintained that the process was carried out in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, reflecting the genuine will of delegates across the country.
