Ghana witnessed one of its most significant demonstrations on September 21, 22, and 23, 2023.
Known as #OccupyJulorbiHouse, this demonstration was organized by the pressure group Democracy Hub, with the aim of protesting against the exorbitant cost of living, the leadership’s inability to address economic challenges, the dire state of road infrastructure (#FixTheMotorWay), the detrimental effects of galamsey, as well as the pervasive issues of corruption and greed.
During these three days, thousands of Ghanaians took to the streets, united in their demand for change. The atmosphere was charged with passion and determination as citizens voiced their frustrations and called for accountability.
Celebrities such as E.L., Efia Odo, M.anifest, Kelvyn Boy, John Dumelo, Efia, Stonebowy, Pappy Kojo, and D-Black.
The primary focus of the protest was the skyrocketing cost of living, which had burdened the Ghanaian population for far too long. Families struggled to make ends meet, while the government seemed oblivious to their plight.
Speaking to the media during day 3 of the demonstrations, D-Black promulgated that the ruling New Patriotic Party [NPP] government has failed the youth.
“We are not seeing what the government promised us…The government is not speaking to us… We are rather speaking to the government…Nothing is working…The current government has failed the Youth”.
D-Black made it clear that he participated in the protest as a concerned Ghanaian citizen and not as a celebrity. He then called on the government to take action to address the country’s problems.
