Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region, has expressed strong support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to run unopposed for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership in 2028.
Speaking on Oyerepa Breakfast Time, Dr. Agyemang emphasized the strategic advantage of backing the current Vice President without internal competition.
“Personally, if Bawumia will contest in 2028 for the NPP flagbearer position, I’ll vote for him. We’ve sold him very well to the Ghanaian electorate, just like the National Democratic Congress (NDC) successfully marketed John Mahama,” he stated.
Dr. Agyemang argued that allowing Bawumia to go uncontested would not only solidify the NPP’s unity but also reduce the financial burden of an internal contest.
Drawing comparisons to the NDC’s approach with former President Mahama, who once faced a yes-or-no vote for his candidacy, he noted that a similar strategy could be beneficial for the NPP.
“I pray he (Bawumia) goes unopposed. If that happens, it will really help the NPP because democracy is expensive,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia has been a key figure in the NPP government, serving as Vice President since 2017 and playing a pivotal role in the party’s electoral successes.
