The national leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from controversial remarks made by two of its regional chairmen, stressing that their statements do not reflect the principles or values of the party.
In a press release dated September 28, 2025, and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP urged the public to disregard comments by Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (popularly known as Chairman Wontumi) and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC).
The first issue concerned Abronye DC’s claim in a televised interview that he could influence the compilation of polling station albums. The party firmly rejected this assertion, stressing that no individual holds such authority.
“The Party wishes to emphasize that the compilation of polling station albums will follow clear and transparent procedures, to be issued by the National Secretariat at the appropriate time, ensuring integrity, fairness, and credibility,” the statement clarified.
The second issue related to Chairman Wontumi’s claim that the January 31, 2026, date set for the presidential primaries was chosen to favour a particular aspirant. The NPP dismissed the allegation as false, explaining that the decision to hold an early congress was strategic.
“The decision to hold an early congress is solely to provide the Party with ample time and strategic advantage to reorganise, reposition, and prepare to recapture power in 2028,” the leadership stated.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the NPP’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and fairness across all processes.
