The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling on President John Dramani Mahama to reverse his stance on LGBTQ issues and support the passage of the pending anti-LGBT bill.
At a news conference, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South, emphasized that the party and majority of Ghanaians demand President Mahama realign his priorities with those of the people, citing a CDD Ghana Afrobarometer survey where 93% of Ghanaians found LGBT practices repugnant to societal values and religious beliefs.
The NPP asserts that Ghana’s basic needs haven’t changed and expects President Mahama to fulfill his promise to introduce a government-sponsored bill addressing LGBT issues.”President Mahama, realign your priority. Priorities in line with that of the people you serve,” Rev. Fordjour urged.
The NPP is calling on President John Mahama to apologize to religious and traditional leaders, including the clergy, Imams, Muslim clerics, and traditional rulers, for demonstrating double standards and contradictory priorities.
The party also demands an apology to the Christian Council, Catholic Bishops Conference, GPCC, Office of the Chief Imam, and other faith-based organizations.
