The over Lord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is set to commemorate a mega anniversary dubbed; 150 years of the Sargrenti War.
The two-day event was officially launched yesterday at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and a grand Dubbar is scheduled to take effect tomorrow at the Manhyia Palace.
Ahead of this mega anniversary, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ashanti Region has embarked on a cleanup exercise today, 7th February 2024.
The purpose of the exercise is to sanitize the Kumasi City ahead of the Sargranti War anniversary.
Speaking to the media, the Ashanti Regional Organiser of the NPP, Mr Francis Adomako, aka Francois highlighted his party’s commitment towards improving sanitation of the city.
He said, the party also sees every activity of the Asantehene as highly important and therefore needed to contribute their quota to the mega anniversary by cleaning the surroundings of the Manhyia Palace.
“We’re in the Ashanti Region, and as a political party (NPP) everything about Asantehene, we deem it very important. As Otunfuo is embarking on 150 years of Sargranti war anniversary, we needed to clean the surroundings of Manhyia Palace, namely, Dr Mensah, Krofrom, Kejetia, Race Course and Asawase as part of our contribution to the great commemoration.” Francois told Oyerepa News in an interview.
Some traders at the Dr Mensah market expressed satisfaction with the NPP’s clean-up exercise.
They, however, bemoaned the bad activities of jonkies in the area and called on Kumasi City’s authorities to provide adequate security at the market.
