Following the Tamale High Court’s ruling, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has released a schedule for the rerun of the parliamentary primary in the Walewale constituency.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, the party announced that nominations will be accepted from Tuesday, September 3 to Friday, September 6. The primary election is set to take place on Sunday, September 8.
Aspirants are required to obtain nomination forms at a cost of GH₵3,000 and file at GH₵35,000. However, women, youth (defined as individuals between 18 and 40 years old), and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive a 50% rebate on the filing fees, paying GH₵17,500 instead.
Notably, aspirants who participated in the initial election on January 28 and paid the filing fees will not be required to pay again.
The NPP has assured that no one will be denied access to the nomination forms.
This rerun follows a disputed primary election on January 28, where Dr. Mahama Tia Kabiru narrowly defeated Hajia Lariba. Hajia Lariba, a former Gender Minister, contested the results, alleging electoral irregularities and misconduct by the party, Dr. Kabiru, and the Electoral Commission.
