The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned the recent violence in Obuasi, resulting in the loss of lives, and blamed the President John Mahama Mahama administration for its inaction.
The party accused President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) leadership of failing to caution their members against violent rampages after the December 7 election.
According to Richard Ahiagba, the national Communications Director, the grassroots members of any political party take directives from their leadership, and the NDC’s silence was perceived as a green light to continue the violence.
The party emphasized that the loss of lives is regrettable and avoidable, and President Mahama must take responsibility for the consequences of his administration’s inaction.
The NPP has called on the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice is served expeditiously.
The party stressed that the loss of lives, regardless of political affiliation, is a tragic loss for Ghana, and the government must take steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
