Lawyer Kwabena Boateng has disclosed that not every pastor in Ghana is allowed by law to bless and issue marriage certificates.
Educating the public on the different types of marriages and how they are done in Ghana in a new segment on the Oyerepa Breakfast Show dubbed “De3 Mmra no Se3” , Lawyer Kwabena Boateng explained that only pastors who are gazetted in law are allowed to bless and administer marriage certificates.
“In marriage by ordinance, a pastor blessing the marriage must be fully vetted by law before issuing a marriage certificate; if not, the marriage is declared null,” he stated.
“Even the premises of the church must also be gazetted, or else it contradicts the law,” he added.
“Because it’s a statue and no one can breach that, it has severe implications at the end and is only allowed to have publication of bans before the main marriage ceremony in the church, not on the wedding day,” he emphasized.
Concluding that at least the marriage couples must be shown to the congregation three times before the marriage.
