The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three individuals for unlawful possession of restricted pharmaceutical drugs and a firearm near Diare, a suburb of Savelugu in the Northern Region.
The suspects — Jabuni S. Mohammed, Alidu Abdul Samed, and Abdul Aziz — were apprehended on Sunday, August 3, 2025, during a routine night patrol along the Tamale–Bolgatanga highway.
According to police reports, the arrest followed an incident in which Jabuni, who was driving a Nissan Hardbody pick-up with registration number GN 2812–20, failed to stop at a checkpoint at Diare. A pursuit ensued, and the suspect eventually abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee into a nearby bush. He was arrested shortly afterward.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a deflated spare tyre packed with 1,399 blister foils of Tafrodol 120mg — a restricted pharmaceutical drug — as well as a loaded pistol hidden inside the headrest.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the two other suspects, Alidu and Abdul Aziz, who were intercepted on an unregistered motorbike while reportedly on their way to meet Jabuni.
All three suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
