The President of the New Ghana Social Justice Forum, Yahaya Alhassan, has called on the leadership of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, to unite and support the good work of President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Mr. Alhassan accused some party leaders of neglecting the grassroots members who worked to bring the NDC back to power.

He complained that grassroots members who campaigned and struggled with the party before the 2024 elections are now being treated like a nuisance. “Numbers have been blocked.

They have to fill a long form just to get access to the same leaders we campaigned and struggled with before the 2024 election. Everyone knows this. We faced the bullet of democracy. We felt the bullet of change that Ghanaians are enjoying today,” he said.

Mr. Alhassan recalled how party members spent weeks in custody and endured hardships to return the NDC to power after the party was voted out in 2016 and faced challenges even during the 2019 COVID period.

In light of this, the Social Justice Forum is calling on NDC leadership to initiate a national dialogue with the grassroots. “It is to address concerns, restore trust, and settle the growing differences within the party,” he said.

He stressed that no individual is above the party. “The NDC won power, not through a man-made strategy or through a single person. The NDC won power through civil society and through the work of Ghanaians. This is not the time for power play.”

Mr. Alhassan urged party members to unite and support President Mahama’s “Resetting Ghana” agenda. “It is time to be united, to join the good work of President John Dramani Mahama. This will reflect well on those who want to be president after him. For now, we are urging them to be united, avoid power plays, and support President John Mahama for a better Ghana and a better reset agenda,” he added.

The forum’s call comes as the NDC government marks its first months in office under President Mahama’s second term, with focus on national reset, accountability, and development.
